The Selexyz Dominicanen is possibly one of the coolest bookstores in the entire world! The building the bookstore is in, is in fact a Gothic church consecrated in 1294 by the Order of Predicators founded by St. Dominic. The Selexyz Dominicanen was awarded the Lensvelt de Architect prize in 2007, and welcomes about 700,000 visitors each year and has over 25,000 books and 45,000 volumes showcased.
The interior was designed by Amsterdam-based firm Merkx+Girod Architecten, who took advantage of the spatial magnificence of the church’s architecture to create large areas for retail space. This space is extremely well shown in Roos Aldershoff‘s photographs. Aldershoff perfectly captures every aspect of the building from the inside and out.

UPDATE: It has come to my attention that the Selexyz Dominicanen is actually located in Maastricht. I have also been informed the church recently declared Bankruptcy, and anyone who wishes to donate to the bookstore to keep it there can, here.
