These awesome costumes are the creation of enthusiast called Cosplayers. The goal in Cosplaying is to create as close to exact replicas of favorite characters, either real life or fiction. Mainly looked down upon or laughed at, Cosplaying has recently gained a large fan base and is becoming a more accustomed and interactive activity thanks to social media websites such as Reddit, where Cosplaying is a large portion of the site, with a subreddit of 74,000 active users.

Based in Vienna, Austria, photographer Klaus Pichler has been shooting internationally as a freelance photographer since 2005. Pichler did an amazing job capturing the juxtaposing image of daily home life and the unidentifiable people within, giving great contrast to the enthusiast daily life, and their Cosplay life. Pichler had this to say about his Project titled Just The Two Of Us:

“Who hasn’t had the desire just to be someone else for awhile? Dressing up is a way of creating an alter ego and a second skin which one’s behaviour can be adjusted to. Regardless of the motivating factors which cause somebody to acquire a costume, the main principle remains the same: the civilian steps behind the mask and turns into somebody else. ’Just the Two of Us’ deals with both: the costumes and the people behind them.”

If you had an amazing halloween costume and didn’t get a chance to have Klaus Pichler come to your house and take your picture, feel free to take a similar styled shot and send it in for a chance to have it featured in an upcoming post!
