These haunting images are the work of photographer Perttu Saksa, who recently captured the depressing and unnatural lives of Jakarta’s street performing monkeys. The monkeys are dressed in children’s clothing and hidden behind a mask, that over their performing careers become more of a horror story character, then a dancing monkey.

“Modern city culture has turned the old tradition into [an] eerie and haunting act of cruel street theatre where animals become something else, never able to reach our expectations.”

You can see plenty more of Perttu’s work on street performers in Jakarta on his photography website, here. (Via PetaPixel)
